Ranking
St. Xavier’s Mumbai has been ranked as the 2nd best college in India for Science studies and the 4th best in India for Humanities studies.  Although, the college climbed a phenomenal 16 places from 18th in 2011 to usurp Loyola College from 2nd place, it has been a regular part of the top 5 Science colleges in India, since 2007.  In 2006 it was at 2nd position.  On the other hand, the Humanities department has regularly featured in the top 5, climbing up from its position of 4th in 2011 to 3rd in 2012.  The Humanities department was the best in India in 2006, before losing out to current no.1 LSR, New Delhi.  Admission to the college remains tough, as it is one of the most coveted colleges in India. Selection is based on the scores secured in the 10+2 examinations.
Infrastructure
Most people of India would have seen the college feature in some or the other Bollywood movie. The Gothic architecture and the grey rock structures make the college look formidable.  The classrooms are equipped with wooden benches, a fantastically stocked library and extremely well-maintained labs. The Biology lab is the best out of the lot.  Apart from the Physics lab; which students say could have been better, the rest are pretty decent. Internet can be accessed in some of the labs or at the Xavier's Institute of Communication (XIC). Hostel facilities are also available on campus.
Faculty
St. Xavier’s Mumbai has one of the most experienced and learned group of faculty.  The college is especially well known for the quality of the faculty.  The faculty, especially the Statistics, Geology and Microbiology departments are very well known for having exceptional faculty.  Except for some subjects like Psychology, even the Humanities department can improve the quality of teachers.
